The Jameson Cell is a high intensity, high efficiency flotation device. Although the Jameson cell was initially developed to overcome deficiencies in column flotation its application has extended well beyond these initial boundaries and there are now over 250 cells operating in base metals, coal, SXEW and industrial minerals around the globe. While the robust, low cost, high volume, efficient flotation nature of the Jameson cell led to rapid adoption in the Australian coal industry it is often by combining the Jameson Cells’ strength - low cost, low space, small bubbles, rapid fines recovery, and froth washing with conventional flotation cells that they come into their element in Base Metals flotation. The Jameson Cell can produce a large amount of high quality concentrate at a low cost and in a small space which when couple with a smaller number of conventional cells provide the residence time to recover slow floating particles. This is an ideal combination for new circuits, or for low cost expansion of existing circuits.

Including Jameson cells creates a more energy efficient circuit which also performs better. Robust design and control strategies, and lack of moving parts, mean it is simple to operate and maintain. Cells can be custom designed for each application, with a variety of construction materials or design changes possible. Xstrata Technology provides detailed cell and flowsheet design expertise as well as installation and commissioning support for all Jameson Cell installations.

The patented Jameson Cell is marketed by Xstrata Technology, based in Brisbane Australia.
